Everyone deserves a safe workplace

Every April, we join millions around the world on Workers Memorial Day in remembering workers who were killed on the job last year. These individuals were your neighbors, friends, family members and co-workers — ordinary people who deserved to return home after a hard day's work, but who died because not enough was done to protect them on the job. The cause of this widespread problem is many-fold. Too many employers cut corners on safety to maximize their bottom lines. Employees are sometimes forced to return to work when they are sick or hurt, making them vulnerable to further injury. Working together, we can end the loss of life and limb, and make the commonwealth a safe, healthy and fair place for all to live and make a living. Court rejects OSHA's bid to issue recordkeeping citations more than six months after violations occurred

A three-judge appeals court panel has shot down OSHA's stance that it has authority to issue recordkeeping citations up to five years after a violation occurred if employer logs remain inaccurate -- handing a major victory to industry and, according to sources closely watching the issue, forcing the agency to issue future recordkeeping citations within six months of when the actual violation occurred, in line with industry's position. One attorney also suggests the long-awaited decision could bolster the agency's efforts to modernize its recordkeeping system to mandate electronic recording of workplace injuries and illnesses. The Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit decided in favor of Volks Constructors, which challenged OSHA's recordkeeping citations but lost an earlier appeal to the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC). Educan sobre consecuencias sociales y legales de la violencia doméstica

Primera Hora Durante una mesa redonda, la Junta de Relaciones del Trabajo (JRT), a través de su presidente Jeffrey J. Pérez Cabán, presentó un cuadro fáctico de las consecuencias legales y sociales de la violencia doméstica en el ambiente laboral. De paso, Pérez Cabán planteó, ante cientos de profesionales de los recursos humanos afiliados a la Asociación de Recursos Humanos y Relaciones Laborales de Puerto Rico, acciones concretas que deben existir en las empresas, para combatir este mal social. De igual forma, aprovechó la ocasión para hacer un llamado de exhortación a los gremios  sindicales, patronos y empresarios en general a que incluyan los protocolos de violencia doméstica en sus normativas y condiciones de trabajos en sus respectivas industrias. Delta Air Lines signs agreement with US Department of Labor's OSHA on seat belt compliance measures to protect airline industry workers OSHA also issues hazard alert to other airlines urging compliance

WASHINGTON – Delta Air Lines Inc. has signed a corporatewide settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration in order to protect workers who operate baggage handling vehicles. The agreement covers approximately 90 of the Atlanta-based company's airport sites that fall under federal OSHA's jurisdiction, as well as 16,000 Delta employees and 6,000 baggage handling vehicles. Under the agreement, Delta will come into compliance with applicable requirements for the use of seat belts by ensuring that all types of the company's baggage handling vehicles are equipped with them and that employees use the seat belts while operating the vehicles on specified airport routes. A Todos los Socios: La Junta de Directores de la Sociedad de Profesionales de Prevención de  Accidentes de Puerto Rico, decidió celebrar su Asamblea Informativa , Junta 2010-2012 el viernes, 18 de mayo de 2012, en la Universidad del  Sagrado Corazón, Anfiteatro San Miguel 216, de 1:00 PM a 3:00 P. M.  En la mañana tendremos la actividad educativa. El tema será los nuevos  cambios en ”Rigger” Grúas. Durante la tarde, celebraremos nuestra Asamblea Informativa.  Te invitamos a participar activamente en estas actividades.
